(PORTUGUESE) PAÍSES RICOS TEM PRÁTICA DE EXPORTAR LIXO: BRASIL IMPORTA TONELADAS

Os países mais ricos do mundo encontraram uma solução fácil para acabar com mais de 400 milhões de toneladas de lixo que produzem: estão exportando para os países pobres. Enviar o material para o terceiro mundo chega a ser dez vezes mais barato que tratá-lo no próprio país. No meio deste mercado está o Brasil, que importou 223 mil toneladas de lixo desde janeiro de 2008.

Há quem justifique que o país precisa do material importado para alimentar a indústria nacional, que reutiliza os reciclados. O Brasil, porém, recicla apenas 22% do lixo produzido no próprio território.

Dentre os países exportadores de lixo, estão os Estados Unidos. Cerca de 80% do lixo eletrônico produzido é exportado para países como o Brasil, China, Malásia e Vietnã. Os EUA jogam 130 milhões de celulares no lixo por ano e possui 500 milhões de computadores ultrapassados.

Apesar dos levantamentos feitos, é impossível saber a quantidade exata de lixo exportado no mundo, visto que o comércio da carga é feito ilegalmente.
