(Portuguese) Grupo Cubano Anuncia Teste de Vacina Contra AIDS em Humanos

Um time de biotecnologia cubano, que teve êxito ao testar uma vacina contra AIDS em cobaias de laboratórios, anunciou que está pronto para dar início ao experimento com humanos.
O pronunciamento foi feito durante uma conferência na capital cubana, Havana, na segunda-feira [5 Mar 2012].
“A vacina contra a AIDS já foi testada com sucesso [em camundongos] e agora estamos preparados para uma pequena e controlada fase de exames clínicos [com pacientes soropositivos que não se encontram em estágios avançados da doença], disse o pesquisador Enrique Iglesias, CIGB (Centro de Engenharia e Biotecnia Genética).
Iglesias explicou que a vacina Teravac-HIV-1 é feita com proteínas recombinadas que provocam uma resposta celular de defesa contra o vírus HIV.
O pesquisador lembrou que mais de cem testes clínicos com humanos foram realizados antes por grupos de pesquisa de Cuba e de outros países, mas realçou que todos falharam.
Cuba gasta por ano mais de US$ 200 milhões (cerca de R$ 349 milhões) em programas de prevenção contra a AIDS.
