“Estados Unidos vão dialogar com Cuba quando tiverem um presidente negro e o Papa for latino-americano”, disse o líder cubano em um encontro com jornalistas relatado pelo jornal argentino Clarín.

Uma reportagem do jornal argentino Clarín, publicada nesta quinta-feira (23 julho 2015) mostra que o líder cubano Fidel Castro fez, inadvertidamente, uma previsão certeira em um encontro com jornalistas ocorrido em 1973.

O jornalista britânico Brian Davis perguntou a Fidel, que retornava de uma visita feita ao Vietnã, pouco depois de encerrada a guerra deste país com os Estados Unidos: “Quando o senhor acredita que poderão ser restabelecidas as relações entre Cuba e Estados Unidos, dois países tão distantes apesar da proximidade geográfica?”.

A resposta de Fidel veio por meio de uma olhar fixo e  dada em alto e bom som, para que todos os jornalistas presentes pudessem ouvi-la. “Os Estados Unidos virão dialogar conosco quando tiverem um presidente negro e houver no mundo um Papa latino-americano.”

A fala irônica do presidente de Cuba queria demonstrar que, na verdade, o reatamento de laços estava muito distante. Afinal, àquela altura era inimaginável que os EUA viessem a eleger um presidente negro e os pontífices da igreja católica eram, invariavelmente, italianos com trajetória apostólica em Roma.

Por conta da resposta inusitada, muitos profissionais da comunicação riram, como conta o jornalista argentino Pedro Jorge Solans. Ele resgatou a história em uma recente viagem feita a Cuba, enquanto fazia uma matéria acerca da reaproximação diplomática entre o país caribenho e os norte-americanos.  A reportagem original foi publicada no El Diario de Carlos Paz.
