The Moon and the Stars

A Poem on our Cosmos

The Moon is our beautiful satellite
It changes its appearance for us
From new moon to the full — called the Full Moon Night
The Moon has been a source of learning and delight

Learning for the intelligent folks
It helps them maintain the fortnightly calendar
Delight and joy for the lovers among us
They sing songs; express their love for each other

The Earth itself goes around the Sun
It is called a planet of the Sun
Astronomers discover new planets
Latest one called Planet Nine

The Stars — there are billions of them high above in the sky
They shine; they radiate charm and beauty like a sweet pie
Despite being so far away from us — so many light years away
A light year — the distance that light takes to cover in a year

The brightest star known as Sirius
Keeps shining above us
We used to sing Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are

Countless stars but a few recognisable like the Pole Star
High above the North Pole and remaining unmoving there
The star that helped fearless men to navigate the Seas
Displaying bravery and fortitude
They expressed their gratitude
To their God, the winds and the Star
That helped them reach lands afar

Can we think of a world without the Moon and the Stars?
We cannot, we would become lifeless without them
Even when there are clouds that hide them
We remember them, bask in their beauty, sing to them
