21 Jul 2024 – The United States president Joe Biden has officially announced that he is out of the presidential race after several weeks of other Democrats asking him to withdraw due to his advanced age and mental gaps.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden wrote in a letter posted to his X account.

Biden has thus yielded to pressure from his own party after his lackluster performance in the first race debate to the White House against former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump. Dozens of legislators and senators had asked him in recent days to leave the witness because of his advanced age.

After being diagnosed with COVID-19 last week, Biden remains at his Delaware beach house, and said he would address the nation later this week to provide “detail” about his decision.

“For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work.”

Kamala has rushed to announce her nomination to the US presidency endorsed by Biden.

“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this,” said Biden on an X post.

Biden assured that picking Kamala as his VP on 2020 was the best decision he made.

The current US president also commented that he will focus all his energies on the duties as President for the remainder of his presidential term.
