Israeli Military Blows Up Neighborhood in West Bank’s Jenin Refugee Camp

Israel Escalates Attack on Jenin, West Bank, Blows Up 23 Homes on Residential Block, 5 Feb 2025 – Democracy NOW!

At least 20 residential buildings were destroyed in the blast, which also damaged a hospital.

5 Feb 2025 – On Sunday [2 Feb], the Israeli military blew up a neighborhood in the Jenin refugee camp as its stepped-up assault on the northern West Bank city continues.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israeli military rigged residential buildings in the refugee camp with explosives and blew up at least 20. The blast also damaged the main hospital in Jenin.

The WAFA report noted that the “residential buildings in Jenin refugee camp are built vertically, with each structure containing multiple apartments. As a result, a large number of families have been displaced due to the demolitions.”

The Israeli military claimed the buildings it destroyed were used as “terrorist infrastructure” but provided no evidence for the claim.

No casualties were reported in the blast as the Israeli military has forcibly displaced the majority of residents of the refugee camp as part of its campaign against resistance groups based there.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli forces killed a 73-year-old Palestinian man in Jenin, raising the death toll since the new operation was launched on January 21 to at least 27. Many civilians have been killed by the Israeli operation, including a two-year-old girl who was shot in the head while inside her home.

Israeli officials have threatened the assault on Jenin would be similar to the destruction in Gaza. Like the campaign in Gaza, Israeli military bulldozers have destroyed civilian infrastructure, including roads and about 100 homes.

Israeli settlers have also stepped up their terrorist attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. According to Middle East Eye, on Sunday morning, settlers set fire to a mosque in the Arab al-Mleihat community outside of the city of Jericho.
