3 set 2018 – De acordo com um relatório da empresa de pesquisa de mercado Grand View Research, Inc, de São Francisco, o mercado de substitutos da carne deve valer 5,81 bilhões de dólares até 2022. A principal justificativa apontada pela empresa é a preferência por uma dieta isenta de alimentos de origem animal.

Por enquanto, os substitutos da carne baseados em soja estão liderando o mercado, seguido por substitutos à base de trigo e micoproteínas (baseadas em fungos). A proteína texturizada de soja (PTS) está em primeiro lugar.

No entanto, até 2022, substitutos da carne à base de trigo, como o seitan, devem conquistar maior participação no mercado, principalmente na América do Sul, América Central e Ásia. Atualmente a Europa responde pelo maior mercado de alternativas à carne, e a tendência é que continue assim, segundo o relatório.
