21 Apr 2019 – Today is Easter Sunday, the most holy day of the Christian Church calendar, commemorating the resurrection of Lord Jesus from the dead as described in the New Testament.
Being a Hindu, somehow there was an urge in me to participate in this auspicious event.
There are many old and beautiful churches in Delhi some of which have heritage status. I decided to visit St James Church, which is not far from where I live. It was built in 1836 and has a beautiful canopy and a spacious garden for people to relax.
When I reached the church only the last part of the ceremony was going on. It consisted of reciting the Closing Hymn, on which I also joined. These are the words addressed to the Lord:
Thine be the Glory, risen, conquering Son:
endless is the victory thou o’er Death hast won ….
After the hymns were sung, a parent brought their one-year-old son for baptism. The child was named Aayaan.
I felt a sense of harmony and peace on this Easter Sunday. I also blessed the child.
