Haunani-Kay Trask (3 Oct 1949 – 3 Jul 2021) was a Hawaiian nationalist poet, activist, educator, political scientist, author, and professor emeritus at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Trask co-wrote and co-produced the award-winning documentary Act of War: The Overthrow of the Hawaiian Nation, winning nine different awards in three different countries.
[From TMS editor: I had the privilege to interact with Haunani-Kay in numerous occasions during my undergrad and grad years at the UH Mānoa. Her integrity, passion, fearlessness, scholarship, sense of justice and objectivity transpired in her activism, words, deeds. I am forever indebted to Haunani as a major inspiration and role model–for life. MAHALO NUI LOA, dear teacher. You live!! (I am in the audience–long beard and shirt with horizontal stripes)]
