Yet another gathering of wonderful people to dialogue on the intractable challenges of global civilization. Tragically a historical perspective would show that we have of course been here before.
Cooperation and its Failures: from the 1960s through the 1980s (https://bit.ly/3RJsDBa); Collective Learning from Calls for Global Action (https://bit.ly/3jHT0dU). What has been learned about the process? What did not work and why? Why does the new invitation not indicate how it will differ from the many honourable efforts of the past — of seemingly unmemorable significance? Another call to dialogue with no indication of the method to be employed?
Maybe yet another case of what Johan Galtung termed the standard conference contract: I get to listen to your s*** for 10 minutes and then you commit to listening to my s*** for 10 minutes? Does the webinar format avoid past difficulties — as challenged separately (From Zoom Organization to Zome Configuration and Dynamics, https://bit.ly/3Xhc4Oc).
Dangerous overconfidence and overoptimism? Oh for the perspective of the poet John Keats on negative capability (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_capability). Most problematic — is it possible that the dialogue method as currently practiced is as much part of the problem as of the solution it claims to address?
