Oscar Winning Video from the South Indian Film “RRR” at the 2023 Academy Award Ceremony
The film “RRR” (Rise, Roar, Revolt) is a period piece set in India in 1920, in the pre-independence era of the British Raj. It is a fictionalised retelling of the lives of two freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, who fought against the British Raj. It was directed by S.S Rajamouli and released on 13 Oct 2022. The video is in the context of the proclaimed superiority of the British Raj and culture in India, at a time of antagonism towards the indigenous culture of the subjugated Indians. – Prof. Hoosen Vawda
