7 Sep 2023 – I am extremely shocked to hear the news about the death of Dr. M.S. Gosavi, Director General and Secretary, Gokhale Education Society, Nashik, Maharashtra, India on 09 July 2023. This is my delayed condolences because I was not aware about his death. It was my intuitive enquiry to know about him through Google Search, and I found through The Times of India News that he died 2 months ago. I deeply with my heart pray to the almighty God to grant him peace to his immortal soul, and give courage to the far, near and dear family members, and to those who have very much concern to him to bear the irreparable loss.
Educationally and intellectually Dr. M.S. Gosavi and I were good friends. First time, we met in Bhopal Conference of IAEWP, Asian Institute of Human Rights Education and Council for Human Rights Education. We both were the Guest Speakers there on that occasion.
After Bhopal Conference, Dr. M.S. Gosavi invited me as a Guest of Hounor to the Platinum Jubilee Special Function of his prestigious Institution – The Gokhale Education Society Dr. M.S. Gosavi Centre of Technology and Management, Prin.T.A. Kulkarnni, Vidyanagar, Nashik, Maharashtra, India, and also for Inaugural of Autonomous Program, Master of Management Science (Legal Administration), scheduled to be held on March 23, 20002. On that occasion, another Guest of Honour was Justice S.G. Mutalik (Retired), Judge of the Bombay High Court. The Chief Guest was Justice Dr. Dhananjay Y. Chandrachud, then Judge of the Bombay High Court, who is at present the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India. Justice B.C. Gadgil (Retired), Judge of the Bombay High Court presided the function.
Knowing and understanding the wide, deep and long theoretical and practical experience in the field of education, I assigned Dr. M.S. Gosavi the responsibility of State Chancellor of IAEWP for Maharashtra, and he accepted this honour with promise that he would open the IAEWP Chapters in all the Districts of Maharashtra to execute the objectives of IAEWP, viz. to promote international understanding and world peace through education, to protect the environment against all forms of pollution, to safeguard the universal declaration of Human Rights, and to promote nuclear disarmament and demilitarization.
I really admired and thanked to Dr. M.S. Gosavi for his voluntarily and generous offer for his proposal to hold 19th World Congress of IAEWP on 24, 25 and 26 October, 2016 at Nashik, Maharashtra, India in his Gokhale Education Society on the eve of in its inaugural of Centenary Celebration, when the IAEWP 19TH World Congress previously scheduled to be held at New Delhi in 2015 was postponed by the Local Organizing Committee of New Delhi at the eleventh hour, hence the prospective participants and guests felt inconvenient, who were in a great loss by canceling their reservations in Flights, Trains and Hotels for Delhi. Actually, Dr. Gosavi rescued us by offering his proposal to hold the Congress with rescheduling the programs. And we gave ‘A Big Thank’ to him.
19th World Congress of IAEWP on the theme: Peace Education for Good Governance and Non-Violence was a Grand Success in all respects, and the credit goes to Dr. M.S. Gosavi. His name has been recorded in the history of IAEWP.
After the great achievement in the field of peace education through IAEWP 19th World Congress, Dr. M.S. Gosavi was motivated to do something more in the new emerging field of peace education to the service of the nation and the world through the students community, who are the future nation and the world. And with his altruistic views, he wrote me that he wished to start courses in Peace Education which would be the part of the curriculum for learning to the students in certain courses in his educational institutions. In the response, I appreciated and supported his proposal and I sent him a lot of materials and matters related to peace education with my good wishes for the success of his new venture. But I am not aware about its progress.
Dr. M.S. Gosavi was genius and brilliant. He passed the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Examination. But he did not join the post because his inner choice was in the field of education. Dr. Gosavi, who was the Secretary of the Gokhale Education Society, became the Principal of a College of the Society at the age of 23 years. He was also the Dean of the Commerce Faculty of Pune University. Dr. Gosavi opened a College for women, and he provided educational facilities to the students from remote, rural and urban areas.
Dr. M.S. Gosavi made the Gokhale Education Society one of the Pioneer Educational Institutions providing all levels of education from K.G. to P.G. and beyond for the children of scheduled tribes, downtrodden and well-to-do, in the part of this country.
Dr. M.S. Gosavi, like other a few great personalities, chose education as mission of his life for giving second birth to the children of all the statuses. Also Dr. Gosavi closed so many prisons by opening schools and the colleges in the particular region under the umbrella of the Gokhale Education Society, in view of Victor Hugo, who said, “One, who opens a School, closes a prison.”
I dedicate with great honour to Dr. M.S. Gosavi, a distinguished educationist, in his memory a Video of mine on Peace Education cited below with its website link to view and listen to remember him perpetually:
