Since the early days of human existence virtually all people yearned strongly to live at peace with each other. They viewed harmonious living as their ultimate goal in life. Yet we learn from history that those in power always tended to solve their differences through struggles and wars. We need to get to the source of this problem in the hope that we may finally procure a remedy that will last for endless generations yet to come.
The Coming of Interspiritual Age
Many books were written like: The Coming Interspiritual Age published in 2012 by Kurt Johnson and David Robert Ord. It is provided by Namaste Publishing, P.O. Box 62084, Vancouver, British Colombia, V6J 4A3, Canada. Links: www.namastepublishing.com / www.thecominginterspiriltualage.com . There is a resource link on Interspirituality worldwide at www.isdna.org . Kurt Johnson’s e-mail is: kurtjohnsonisd@yahoo.com In spite of diversities, humans tend to find common ground in their spiritual sphere.
Religion, viewed as the seat of spirituality, may bring people together in peace and harmony. All this is explained in this well-written book. At one time science and religion appeared to be in conflict. Actually, they complement each other. People on the whole tend to be deeply spiritual. There have been many religions in history. However, the major ones in chronological order may be viewed to be Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. As well illustrated in this book’s first pages, a house divided against itself cannot stand.
The word interspirituality transcends all categories of religions and states of life like black and white, gay and straight, saints, sages and heroes. Human disagreements often lead to struggles and wars whose objective is to destroy the infrastructure of nations and kill millions of innocent people. All dialogues and discussions must be approached on a mutually beneficial basis. In many instances, diverse theories were eventually proven to be complementary and reconcilable, like the theory of evolution versus that of creationism.
In fact, Pope Pius XII, speaking on this topic said: If evolution were to be proven to be the case, that would have been easier for God to create the human being when the body was eventually already formed than simply from mere mud picked up from the ground. What makes the human being different from the animal is the fact that the human being has been endowed with a soul that gives him the full semblance of God. The deep spiritual experience is always the same since it seeks recognition of interdependence of all people, dedication to non-violence, and genuine friendship between human beings everywhere.
Discovering the Source of Conflicts
We all tend to be mystic. Regardless of our different paths, our goal remains the same. In our conflicts we should concentrate merely on the sources that caused them. As the scholastics used to say: Quidquid contingens est causam habet – Anything that exists must have a cause. When we succeed to learn about the origin of everything that exists, we are then able to reveal wisdom in our judgments. Also, awareness of our spiritual forces is always helpful to hasten ourselves on the road to global harmony.
Our knowledge of history is very valuable for, as the saying goes, those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. History has been blessed with many good philosophers that came from every walk of life, religion and culture. Each one of them had something to offer us that proved to be fully positive and constructive. There were times when good theological presentations were not accepted by the general public but then decades later they were fully accepted and endorsed even by spiritual authorities.
We may bring here as an example, The Phenomenon of Man, by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Plenty of philosophical debates were presented by Rene Descartes, John Locke and Immanuel Kant, in addition to others. All of these shared one main objective, namely, to help readers to see things in true perspective to the best they could. Needless to say, the spiritual world is very different from the material world. While the material world gives top priority on material things, the spiritual world transcends such elements.
Spiritually oriented individuals do not seek anything for themselves, least of which publicity. This explains why in this regard Lao Tze told us: A leader is best when people barely know he exists; when his work is done and his aim fulfilled, people attribute the success experienced to them. The Indian teacher, Sri Aurobindo Ghose, brought many people together in peace and harmony through the kind of spirituality he promoted. The holistic era that is emerging slowly but surely cannot be taken lightly.
Regarding the chess game, there is an Italian proverb which says: After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box. This means regardless of the position we hold and the popularity we enjoy, we will all end up in the same boat when the journey of life is over. Over the centuries, the general spiritual trend seemed to be always the same, that is, there are many paths to the top of the tree but, once there, the views are always the same. All religions are meant to enable the adherents become better persons. Although they all take different approaches, they all end up on the top of the tree with same identical views.
Importance of Spiritual Revival
During the year 2012 there has been great spiritual revival with full awareness that, sooner or later, the world will eventually come to an end. This led many to think seriously of what kind of contributions they can make with their life to give to our children and posterity a better world than the one we found. Their human eyes centered on globalization, the creation of one world community that is characterized by peace and harmony where the very concept of struggles and wars would become remote and eventually cease to exist.
Over 6,000 years ago, before the recorded history of civilization, the world was guided by a matriarchal society which was characterized by love, dedication to others, and harmony. The various communities never resorted to struggles and wars to solve problems that arose from their differences. The world was literally blessed with a heavenly atmosphere. When the patriarchal society took over some 7 to 8 thousand years ago, everything changed drastically. All community problems began to be solved through struggles and wars.
Love was replaced by hatred, altruism was replaced by egoism, and prejudice became increasingly dominant especially against women. The time is now ripe to seriously revive the matriarchal society. By nature, while men tend to rule from their mind, which is often doubtful and suspicious, women tend to rule from their heart, which reveals love and compassion for everyone without exception. Fortunately, in several global areas serious steps have been taken in the direction of the matriarchal society revival.
In conclusion, those who want to become involved seriously in life to witness a harmonious global community at work need to secure, among others, the recently published book: The Coming Interspiritual Age, mentioned earlier.
In our effort to bring about a permanent peace, we must develop great respect toward the welfare of every human being without exception. The advice given us by the Master Teacher remains still appropriate and true by all means: Do to others as you would want others to do to you.
