Attention of His Excellency, the Australian Ambassador
Dear Ambassador,
We, French teachers, academics, researchers and intellectuals, wish to inform you of our support for Prof. Jake Lynch (of Sydney University), who has been subjected to legal proceedings by Israel, for refusing to collaborate with the Israeli occupier.
The lack of sanctions against Israel at government level to enforce international law and stop the Israeli occupation and colonisation, leads responsible citizens of every country to support the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) campaign, demanded by the Palestinian civil society.
Any self-respecting intellectual has even more moral duties in this domain, inasmuch as she/he has the potential for knowledge and reflection, allowing her/him to act for the defence of Human Rights and against barbarism.
We are pleased that no Australian organisation or institution joined in these slanderous attacks launched by Israel against Prof. Jake Lynch, Director of Sydney University’s Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPACS).
Incidentally, these attacks deny the freedom of expression and opinion to an academic all the more respected because he has been acting as did before him the men and women who made possible the abolition of segregation in the United States, during the African American struggle for black civil rights, and in South Africa during Apartheid.
Reminder : In 2009, Professor Lynch wrote to the Australian university authorities, asking them to stop collaborating with the Technion University of Haifa and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, because of the systematic oppression of the Palestinian people, against which these universities have never protested, despite the fact that the Palestinian academics are the direct victims.
In 2012, Professor Lynch refused the permission to use his name on an application under the Sir Zelman Cowan fellowship program. He refused to sponsor Professor Don Avon of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem which is heavily involved in occupation and colonisation.
For example, this university did not hesitate to extend its campus on Mount Scopius, by stealing Palestinian lands. Furthermore, it supported the students who took part in the massacre of the Gaza population during the 2008-2009 “Cast Lead” operation. It is also involved with the Army Command College and collaborates widely with Israeli arms industries.
It is therefore clear that Prof. Jake Lynch who is perfectly entitled to choose whom he should sponsor, is not guilty of any “discrimination” (one must cease to reverse roles), and that the complaint lodged by the Israeli law firm Shurat HaDin at the Australian Federal Tribunal, is simply an attempt at intimidation. It is to be noted that Prof. Dan Avnon is not a complainant in this case !
Jake Lynch has already received the support of nearly 2,000 intellectuals and academics throughout the world.
As French intellectuals, teachers and researchers, we too were anxious to tell you about our support and our respect for Prof. Jake Lynch.

Dear Jake Lynch,
In a free country like Australia you have every right to protest about something you do not like. In this case you strongly disapprove of this bunch of vexatious Jews who have the temerity to occupy a small piece of Middle Eastern real estate whilst making some sort of ancestral claim on said land – a bit like those pesky Aboriginals in your neck of the woods, Jake! What puzzles me however is the sort of Apartheid of caring that you academics and your supporters employ. Just across the water from your country is a state with some really bad habits in terms of land grabbing; often with the help of Australia, the USA and Britain. I am referring to Indonesia’s illegal (according to the UN) on-going annexation (we used to call it colonisation) of West Papua with a rather large attendant loss of life estimated to be well over 100, 000 souls people apparently worthless in your compartmentalised value system, given that there seems to be no sign of you worthy academics boycotting your neighbours goods. Then again I never heard of any Australian academics or liberals marching or protesting or in fact doing anything when your Indonesian friends bumped off another 100.000 or more in their attempted invasion of East Timor a few years ago. By the way I am not at all surprised that the French are coming to the party; after all they did their level best to help old Adolph ship their Jews out to the camps some years back and at the moment Jews are leaving France at a cracking rate, chased out by France’s tolerant Islamic residents, presumably with tacit state approval. I wonder where they will go?
1) How many of these people signed this letter, because if they didn’t their careers would be highly endangered.
Arabs have the vast majority of money, and with it, they buy garbage, in the disguise of compassion for a relatively small number of Arabs, while ignoring the ARAB COUNTRIES who persecute far more Palestinians.
A petition under the duress of losing one’s career, house, automobile, status, is not worth the paper and/or electrons it has used.
2) If one really takes the time to explore the issue, there is almost no question that the Israelis are in the right. But the signatories are cowards. The can oppress a small people with virtually no responsibility or consequences. Their concern is hyped and a lie, said to be politically correct.
They are as shameful and cowardly as the Vichy government.
If you knew Jake Lynch, the way we know Jake Lynch… Obsessed with Israel despite living happily on occupied Aboriginal land, despite some half-hearted lip-service. Still, stupid of Shurat ha Din to turn this second rate academic into a cause celebre, against the wishes of the Australian Jewish community. Doubt the Australian ambassador will be much concerned, as the self-styled centre for conflict studies is condemned by both Labor and Liberals, and privately, by many Greens as well. Much beloved by the 50 odd members of the Socialist Alliance though.
