El primer ministro israelí, Benjamin Netanyahu, ha solicitado ayuda a EE.UU. para evitar enfrentarse a cargos de crímenes de guerra por ofensiva en la Franja de Gaza.
El primer ministro israelí, Benjamin Netanyahu, ha recurrido a la ayuda de EE.UU. en la batalla propagandística que libra contra la opinión pública internacional, que está convencida de que su campaña contra el movimiento islámico Hamás constituye un crimen de guerra por sus constantes bombardeos a Gaza.
Netanyahu había afirmado este lunes que Israel debe estar preparado para una operación militar “prolongada” en la Franja de Gaza y “actuará de forma agresiva y responsable” para cumplir su misión.
El primer ministro israelí se reunió con una delegación de legisladores estadounidenses, entre ellos el representante de Nueva York, Steve Israel, para pedirles ayuda con vistas a evitar acabar ante la Corte Penal Internacional (CPI), informa ‘The New York Post’. Su petición se produce en un momento en que varios líderes palestinos se reúnen con funcionarios de la CPI para abordar la cuestión de la adhesión a la organización internacional.
“El primer ministro nos pidió trabajar juntos para impedir que esta estrategia de acudir a la CPI tenga éxito”, afirmó un congresista estadounidense en una entrevista telefónica. “[Netanyahu] quiere que EE.UU. utilice todas las herramientas que tiene a su disposición en primer lugar para que el mundo se convenza de que los crímenes de guerra no los ha cometido Israel, sino Hamás”, aseguró el legislador.
Según Netanyahu, el Ejército israelí recurre a “medidas extraordinarias” para tratar de evitar la muerte de civiles en la contienda que libra contra el grupo islamista, informa ‘The New York Post’.
Las autoridades israelíes y la inteligencia occidental afirman que Hamás lanza sus misiles desde barrios poblados por civiles y almacena sus armas en escuelas e instalaciones médicas con objeto de poner a la población en primera línea de fuego y ganarse así la simpatía del mundo.
