José André Jazz Trío – TRANSCEND Media Service
He is just nine years old… and blind. Jazz prodigy José André Montano Baina takes Bolivia and the world music scene by storm.
Wave is one of the most famous Brazilian songs of all time, written by Antônio Carlos Jobim, Brazilian composer. Drums: Victor Hugo Guzman.

José André picked up the drums at four and was so good that quickly moved on to the piano to form his own trio at the age of five. But away from his instruments, José is just like any other nine-year-old boy.
José was born and raised in the colonial town of Totora, Bolivia – not exactly the epicenter of jazz. His father Roberto says José didn’t inherit the jazz gene from him:
“I didn’t know jazz before, he got me into it. It’s as if he was born with a jazz chip inside him, I don’t know how to explain how it came about, it’s like the jazz was already inside him.”
