Merkel Rules Out Further Sanctions on Russia

The German official nonetheless plans to extend travel bans to newly elected Ukraine officials.
11 Nov 2014 – Germany’s leader, Angela Merkel, doesn’t plan any further economic sanctions on Russia over the Ukraine crisis.
Nonetheless, she has expressed her dissatisfaction with the various parties not holding to the ceasefire agreement designed to end the crisis and with the recent elections performed by pro-Russian rebels.
“We are not satisfied with the situation of the Minsk agreement because large parts of the Minsk agreement are not being implemented,” declared the German Chancellor.
Merkel’s declarations followed European Union’s (E.U.) policy chief Federica Mogherini’s saying Monday that European Union foreign ministers will, next week, discuss “whether to increase the sanctions” as part of “how to support Ukraine in these difficult times.”
However Germany’s chancellor added that she will discuss with Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s President, and Russia’s Vladimir Putin to make clear the intention to have European Union travel bans extended to newly-elected separatists officials in eastern Ukraine.
“Beyond that, further economic sanctions are not planned at the moment, we are focusing on the winter and the humanitarian situation there and how to get a real ceasefire,” Merkel said.
