$$$$$s in Their Hearts, by Alberto Portugheis, (Opus, London, Nov 2014)
Here is someone who has immersed himself for many years in the intricate problems of the Middle East and other troubled areas of the world, despite being at the top of his own musical profession. Probably moving all over the world as a leading pianist and teacher has enabled him to gain a special insight into what makes these terrible problems tick. He has studied and deeply analysed all the different interlocking strands of this vastly intricate mess. From way back in the past to the present he tells the reader amazing revelations that show how complex the whole situation has become.
He has had many years now to gather all his data, and shows by chapter and verse how various situations have developed and been pushed and around by considerations of politics, religion, military necessities, and the ever present malignant influence of the now worldwide Armaments Industries, or, to give it its official name, the Military Industrial Complex, who are continuously stirring the pot of all sides of any conflict that arises no matter where, to their gleeful financial advantage!
Alberto Portugheis has many logical explanations of why this or that particular set of circumstances have become blockages in the path of eventual peace in the troubled regions of the world. He also points out the non-helpful role of most journalists working for the corporate Media, in keeping us in the dark about what is really going on, as they have their editors and their potential readers to hoodwink.
He has patiently set forth a disturbing chain of events that will possibly never be solved under the current economic system, but he has undoubtedly illuminated the way forward. If only we can get our politicians – who seem to be benefiting enormously financially from these situations – and genuine Peace journalists who only want to print the truth, plus all deep thinkers of every profession who specialise in commenting on events in this field, they could all act decisively to solve these multiple problems, instead of exacerbating them, for their own immediate advantages.
Alberto Portugheis, a runner-up of the Nobel Peace Prize Winner contest a few years ago, should now be read with the greatest attention!!!
