14 maio 2015 – Os cubanos já têm acesso à vacina contra o cancro do pulmão.

De acordo com o jornal Metro, esta doença é responsável pela morte de uma em cada quatro pessoas em Cuba, mas a população já tem acesso grátis a esta vacina.

Segundo a mesma fonte, ao contrário das vacinas normais, esta apenas é administrada a pessoas que já têm a doença, aumentando-lhes a esperança média de vida.

Aprovada em Cuba, a vacina já está a ser alvo de ensaios clínicos em vários outros países.

Contudo, o Centro de Pesquisa de Cancro do Reino Unido alertou para o facto de o sucesso da vacina ainda estar aquém do desejável, uma vez que “apenas 12 pessoas com menos de 60 anos tiveram uma boa resposta à vacina”.

“Estas pessoas viveram mais 15 meses comparativamente aos 7,4 meses que os doentes sem vacina tiveram de vida. É um número muito pequeno de pessoas para chegar a conclusões sobre a eficácia da vacina”, explicou o mesmo centro citado pelo Metro.
