China, Ejemplo a Seguir en Día Internacional de la Paz

Hoy [21 Sep 2010], cuando el mundo entero celebra el Día Internacional de la Paz, institucionalizado por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas en 1981, vale la pena analizar el ejemplo de China, un país que ha logrado grandes avances por la equidad social.

Así lo sostuvo en diálogo exclusivo con la Radio Nacional de Colombia el politólogo noruego Johan Galtung, pionero en la investigación de la paz y fundador de TRANSCEND International: La Red Mundial para la Paz, el Desarrollo y el Ambiente.

“No hay mucho para celebrar. Pero hay que recordar el valor de la paz para la condición humana. Es algo tan necesario como la salud”, dijo Galtung quien en 1987 recibió el Premio Nobel Alternativo; y en 1993, el Premio Gandhi.

Explicando su diferenciación entre la paz negativa, que es simplemente evitar la violencia, y la paz positiva, Galtung sostuvo que la equidad es una condición indispenzable para la paz. Y que China, país que en las últimas décadas ha logrado sacar de la pobreza a 400 millones de personas, es un ejemplo a seguir. “En China uno puede ver las mezclas más increibles. Están haciendo puentes y combinaciones que son totalmente nuevas”, comentó.

“Debemos buscar soluciones creativas para la mediación de conflictos y mejorar las condiciones de vida de los que viven más abajo”, afirmó Galtung elogiando también los esfuerzos del presidente del Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, por “coser muy cuidadosamente una región de Latinoamérica y el Caribe.

Sobre el riesgo de una guerra nuclear, advertido en varias columnas de prensa por Fidel Castro, a quien Galtung conoce personalmente, dijo “Es (una amenaza) real. Él (Castro) sigue las noticias muy de cerca aunque exagera un poco. Aunque creo que la gente que tiene los dedos en los botones no va hacerlo. Hay un elemento de razón”, sostuvo.
