23 Dec 2021 – Senate Armed Services Committee report: “As the USA continues to modernize its nuclear weapons, waste will be generated. It is not clear whether there are sufficient facilities to address the waste or if such facilities are in current plans and budgets.” The estimated cost of handling the degrading radioactive material is rising steadily — $512 billion at last count.
