Big Island, Hawaii’s History: Hawaii Tribune-Herald, 1998 – Albertini presented Choi with an estimated 5-foot-by-8-foot check made out to the District Court for the amount of $100. At the top of the check was written, “free speech denied” and “no lie can live forever.”

17 Jul 2023 – Recent news reports noted Russian jets “harassing” MQ-9 Reaper US drones over Syria. What was not reported was that the Russians are operating at the request of the Syrian government whereas the US drones are operating illegally, aiding theft of oil. The US acts like an international mafia boss, assassinating people and stealing other countries’ oil.

Easter 2023 (9 Apr) was marked by the passing of a remarkable man–Benjamin Ferencz. He died on 7 Apr at the age of 103. Ben was the last living Nuremberg WWII war crimes prosecutor. I met him in 1972.

There is a massive toxic stew at Pohakuloa from 75 years of bombing and the use of nuclear depleted uranium, spotting rounds, and likely chemical and biological weapons. Pohakuloa is NOT safe for soldiers, residents and visitors to Hawaii Island.

Hiroshima Never Again!

Aug. 6th marks the anniversary of the U.S. dropping the first atomic bomb named “Little Boy” on the city of Hiroshima, Japan in 1945. Three days later, on Aug. 9th a second atomic bomb named “Fat Man” was dropped on Nagasaki. In two blinding flashes of light, heat and radiation, hundreds of thousands of people were killed.

Haunani-Kay Trask, Hawaiian scholar and activist, died in the morning of 3 Jul 2021 on Oahu, Honolulu. She was 71. Tenured as a professor for more than 30 years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Trask worked in co-founding the contemporary field of Hawaiian Studies.

U.S. military contamination in Hawai’i comes from the military bases on four of the islands. The island of Kauai has the large Pacific Missile Test Facility. The Big Island of Hawai’i has the massive 130,000 acre firing range. The island of Kahoʻolawe is still contaminated from being bombed for decades. 43,000 active duty military personel, 9,600 Guard and Reserve, 60,000 dependents and 20,000 military employees live in Hawai’i. The military complex population of 132,600 comprises 10% of the 1.4 million population of the state.

For three years the Navy repeatedly violated the law. In June of 1984 peace activists announced a nonviolent blockade of the next nuclear ship visiting Hilo. Three people entered the water and held their hands up in a symbolic message to the ship –”STOP.” Jim Snyder, Warren Wineman and Jim Albertini were imprisoned and/or fined for their nonviolent protest.

Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., the apostle of non-violence, was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. Few people remember him for his work for economic justice and an end to the U.S. war in Vietnam. Very few people realize that a jury in the wrongful death suit brought by the King family found that Dr. King’s death was “an act of State.”

Kennedy was killed by multiple shooters with the killing shot coming, not from the school book depository building in the rear, but from the front, behind the picket fence on the grassy knoll. Dr. Robert N. McClelland, MD, the surgeon that treated Kennedy, stated frankly that the killing shot came from the front causing a massive exit wound in the right side of the President’s skull.

Add to this the violence of climate change, the plundering of the earth resources, and even the genetic modification of our very food supply. All for what? Ever increasing short-term profits? Ever increasing consumption, energy demands? Addictions eventually kill. And greed and our addiction to war may prove to be the worst addictions of all.

We now know that, after our leaders decide who should be killed from photos and flimsy evidence, they then follow up by bombing the funerals of those they’ve killed, assuming that whoever shows up for the funeral must also be a terrorist. How low can the U.S. Go? It is unlikely that, from the most powerful nation on earth, the leaders will ever be hauled off to the International Court of Justice for trials, and so we have a world in which the hatreds are compounded daily.
