Jamás en la historia de América Latina, un líder político alcanzó una legitimidad democrática tan incontestable. Desde su llegada al poder en 1999, hubo 16 elecciones en Venezuela. They refused IMF prescriptions, let banks fail and sentenced to prison those responsible for the crisis. The case of Iceland demonstrates that there is a credible alternative to austerity policies that are imposed in Europe. These, besides being economically inefficient, are costly politically and socially unsustainable. By putting the public interest above the interest of markets, Iceland showed the rest of the continent the way to escape the dead end.
