We, the following citizens of India, have just completed 500 days of our peaceful protest against the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project. Although our people have been struggling peacefully and nonviolently and democratically for 500 days, the Central government and the State government have not given our struggle its due importance or serious consideration to our demands. Instead they persist with their plan of commissioning the project at any cost just to please their Russian, American and French masters.

As the very last and desperate attempt at securing our independence and freedom, thwarting another spell of colonialism and foreign domination, safeguarding India’s natural resources, changing our energy policy and ensuring the well-being of our fellow citizens, we would like to appeal to your and our nation’s collective conscience to listen to us, the ordinary people of India, and not to repress us.

We, the members of the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy and people of southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, write to demand immediate halt of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) at Koodankulam in Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, and a thorough scrutiny of the following issues before AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) gives a green signal to the commissioning of the Koodankulam project.
