Triple Jeopardy for Palestinian Prisoners
Prof. Richard Falk – TRANSCEND Media Service, 20 Apr 2020

The allegation of Triple Jeopardy arises from the failure to suspend or mitigate prison condition in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and the related failure to take responsible steps to protect those so confined from contracting the potentially lethal disease. Listen to the Poets
The Schumacher Center - TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2020

11 Apr 2020 – It is Easter week and Passover, and soon Ramadan. Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism all celebrate sacred days during this same period. It is a time of introspection. Each of these traditions offer their own stories of the relationship of individuals to Nature, of the tragedies that ensue when this relationship is out of balance, and of how to begin the healing of that relationship. The poets of these traditions speak through their sacred texts – The Torah, The New Testament, The Quran, The Vedas, The Suttas, the teachings of Confucius, and the Tao Te Ching. Perhaps it is time that we listen to the poets.

On 26 March, less than a week before Trump’s announcement, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted several members of the Venezuelan government for narco-trafficking. Why the U.S. Is the World’s Leading Perpetrator of Global Terrorism
Ghali Hassan | Countercurrents - TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2020

31 Mar 2020 – For nearly a century, the U.S. regime has made it its goal to terrorise (defenceless) nations it deemed geopolitically unfriendly. It is a well-financed and deliberate campaign of unprovoked aggression, war crimes and wanton destruction to dominate the world. Without effective deterrence, every nation is at the mercy of U.S. barbarism. More than 39 countries are currently under U.S.-imposed economic sanctions – more than a quarter of the world’s population. To avoid the fate of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria, Iranian leaders should pursue a defensive military strategy by emulating the DPRK’s formidable defence capability model to stop any U.S. acts of terrorism against their nation.

National Security or Human Security?
Leonard Eiger – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Apr 2020

10 Apr 2020 – We need to step back and ponder the significance of unfolding events, find humility, and reconsider our direction as a nation. As much as we are hugely overfunded and overprepared militarily, we are grossly underprepared in every way to deal with real, human needs. The coronavirus debacle in our nation is a glaring example of that. A pandemic is a deadly as war, yet the resources committed to pandemic prevention and response are a fraction of the resources we commit to military expenditures.

How do we go back through time and space to find the original source of everything? Even if we research the Bible, the Koran, the Jewish writings, or even the Sikh, Zoroastrian, or Buddhist texts, we will find limited information on what is the Absolute Truth. And forget about depending on modern science, they are still searching and have many varying theories to offer.

We will become more aware that we are interconnected, interdependent, cooperation and solidarity being key to human and environmental survival.

Beyond Chutzpah: US Charges Venezuela with Narco-Terrorism
Roger D. Harris – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

According to the parable, the ungrateful son takes out a life insurance policy on his parents, murders them to collect, and is caught and found guilty. At his sentencing, the judge asks if he has anything to say on his behalf. The son replies: “Have mercy upon me because I am an orphan.” That’s chutzpah. Jan Oberg | The Transnational – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

2 Apr 2020 – Governments have spent trillions on preparing for military threats created by their own policies. No one prioritised human and societal security. Connor Bamford | The Conversation - TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

31 Mar 2020 – As more and more people get infected, survive and build up antibodies and T cells against SARS-CoV-2, we may eventually reach a threshold where we achieve “herd immunity”. COVID-19 Blunders Signal End of ‘American Century’
Wang Wen | Global Times - TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

30 Mar 2020 – For most people it’s unfathomable that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is the first global event that hasn’t been led by the US since 1941. The principal founder of peace and conflict studies, Johan Galtung, predicted in his 2009 book ‘The Fall of the US Empire-And Then What?’ that the US empire will decline and fall by 2020. According to Galtung, it is due to USA expanding hegemon that has driven it to exploit and suppress other countries.

The Coronavirus Outbreak Is Part of the Climate Change Crisis
Vijay Kolinjivadi | Al Jazeera - TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

30 Mar 2020 – The two emergencies have their roots in the world’s current economic model – that of the pursuit of infinite growth at the expense of the environment on which our survival depends – and both are deadly and disruptive. The pandemic is part of climate change and therefore, our response to it should not be limited to containing the spread of the virus. What we thought was “normal” before the pandemic was already a crisis and so returning to it cannot be an option.

Save the BBC – But for What?
Prof. Jake Lynch – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Apr 2020

Among the most significant challenges of political reporting today is the rise of the so-called ‘alt-right’, led by demagogues who specialise in evidence-averse rabble-rousing, notably on issues of race and immigration. A classic BBC kerfuffle followed the call by President Trump last year for members of the so-called ‘squad’ – four left-wing Democratic Congresswomen of colour – to “go back to the places from which they came”. Three of the four were born in the USA. But it was clearly not Trump’s intention to appeal for Rashida Tlaib to return from Washington to Detroit, or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to the Bronx.

31 Mar 2020 – In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the most immediate objective is to slow its spread, minimise the death toll and help people through the crisis.  But, despite government promises to support citizens who are now losing their jobs and income, the underlying establishment concern will be as it always has been: to preserve the global inequitable system of wealth and power. Private interests, including airlines, fossil fuel industries and sinister-sounding ‘businesses crucial to national security’, have been busy lobbying governments for taxfunder-paid bailouts.
