What Is Consciousness?
Sadhguru | Uplift – TRANSCEND Media Service, 18 Mar 2019

You actually can neither raise consciousness, nor can you bring it down. We only use the expression of “raising consciousness” against the following background: if you are strongly identified with your physical body, the boundaries of what is you and what is not you are distinctly clear. In this state, you experience yourself as a separate existence. This means you are in survival mode, which is what every other creature is in too. When you identify yourself as the body, the boundaries of who you are, are 100% fixed.

International Women’s Day was first proposed by Clara Zetlin (1857-1933) at the Second International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1911. Later, she served as a socialist-communist member of the German Parliament during the Wiemar Republic which existed from 1920 to 1933 when Hitler came to power. Zetlin went into exile in the Soviet Union shortly after Hitler came to power. She died there several months later in 1933.

Taxes or Debt?
Dr. Naresh Jotwani – TRANSCEND Media Service, 11 Mar 2019

Economists define ‘the wealth of a society’ as its total stock of useful assets – homes, cars, buildings, roads, factories, cattle, money, gold … et cetera. Let us call this definition D1. It turns out that the original definition of ‘wealth’, a few hundred years ago, was NOT D1. Originally, in Old English, the word ‘wealth’ was related to ‘well-being’, via the word ‘weal’. ‘Wealth’ meant, quite simply, ‘that which brought well-being’. Let us call this simpler definition D2.

Venezuela: Beyond Regime Change and Oil
Askiah Adam – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

26 Feb 2019 – The world is unevenly split over Venezuela. The Non-Aligned Movement, accounting for 120 countries “reiterates its firm support” of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in line with the Bandung principles. Russia and China declared their pro-Maduro stand from the word go. The UN refuses to entertain Guido. Recently, some 50 UN envoys have stood in solidarity with Venezuela determined to protect the UN Charter and International Law. This leaves only the usual lapdogs standing with Washington.

Anti Reuter
Johan Galtung – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

The task of journalists is to mirror reality, empirical reality, not some potential reality desired by some and-or predicted by some. It is not to mediate to change empirical reality in favor a new social reality. The task of journalists mirroring reality would include information about communities handling successfully natural and-or social disasters and how; not only all those that did not.

Michelangelo (6 Mar 1475 – 18 Feb 1564)
Biography – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

In his youth, Michelangelo Buonarroti had taunted a fellow student, and received a blow on the nose that disfigured him for life. Over the years, he suffered increasing infirmities from the rigors of his work; in one of his poems, he documented the tremendous physical strain that he endured by painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Political strife in his beloved Florence also gnawed at him, but his most notable enmity was with fellow Florentine artist Leonardo da Vinci, who was more than 20 years his senior.

Baher Kamal | Human Wrongs Watch – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

The “Parties” Are Enjoyed by the Wealthy, Not by Popular Sectors
Roberto Sansón Mizrahi | Opinion Sur – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

21 Feb 2019 – Many countries apply adjustment policies arguing that the State generated a “party” spending income it did not have, which produced serious imbalances. This proposition conceals perverse situations: the “party,” if there was one, was enjoyed by large corporations and wealthy families. Let us be clear: if there were parties, they were just for some; the rest has been submitted to an unbridle process of concentration of wealth and, with that, decisional power as well.

Peace Journalism in Theory and Practice
Silvia De Michelis | E-IR – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

23 Dec 2018 – Peace journalism, as the name suggests, is a form of journalism committed to exploring root causes of conflict in order to “create opportunities for society at large to consider and value nonviolent responses to conflict.” Its history can be tracked back to 1965, when Johan Galtung and Mari Ruge analysed what makes foreign news newsworthy. Jake Lynch and Johan Galtung further developed the notion of peace journalism and argued that the media (war reporting, in particular) predominantly exhibit biases towards violence and rest on the conceptual belief that ‘conflict’ equals ‘war’.

Nobel-Winning Physicist Niels Bohr on Subjective vs. Objective Reality and the Uses of Religion in a Secular World
Maria Popova | Brain Pickings – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

“The fact that religions through the ages have spoken in images, parables, and paradoxes means simply that there are no other ways of grasping the reality to which they refer. But that does not mean that it is not a genuine reality. And splitting this reality into an objective and a subjective side won’t get us very far.”

How to Prepare for a Global Financial Crash: Rural-Urban Continuum and Electric Vehicles
David Adams | Transition to a Culture of Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

1 Mar 2019 In this blog we have often proposed that the culture of war is not sustainable and that the American empire is destined to crash for the same reasons that the Soviet empire crashed. It can be an opportunity for a transition from the culture of war to a culture of peace. However, the crash of the American empire may well be accompanied (caused) by a global financial crash with suffering for ordinary people, as it did for the Soviet people 30 years ago.

Migrant Crisis in Europe? Look at Yemen
Helen Lackner | Open Democracy – TRANSCEND Media Service, 4 Mar 2019

More desperate people crossed the Red Sea into Yemen in 2018 than crossed the Mediterranean heading for Europe. Yemen is in the midst of an internationalised civil war and suffering from the world’s worst humanitarian crisis according to the UN’s Secretary General. There has been no outcry about a ‘migrant invasion’ from the Yemeni Minister of the Interior, whether from the internationally recognised government or the Huthi movement that controls the capital Sana’a.

Robert Burrowes, Ph.D. | Pressenza – TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 Feb 2019
