Kevin Zeese and Margaret Flowers | Popular Resistance – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Aug 2019

11 Aug 2019 – “We oppose the extraterritorial application of unilateral measures.” That is not Cuba, Nicaragua, Iran, Russia, or China talking about the most recent unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against Venezuela, i.e. economic sanctions that have become an economic blockade, but the European Union. Even allies who have embarrassed themselves by recognizing the phony “interim president” Juan Guaido are saying the US has gone too far.

From Legitimacy Wars to the Politics of Impossibility: Horizons of Hope
Richard Falk – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Aug 2019

The Palestinian people are being cruelly pushed hard against walls of submission by violence and threats, which amounts to what has become ‘a lost cause’ somewhat along the lines of Tibet, Western Sahara, and the fates that have befallen most indigenous peoples. This is what Trump is promoting as ‘the deal of the century’ and seems to be what the Arab dynastic autocrats would like to see happen so that they can get on with their business of confronting Iran and keeping their own peoples forever captive.

The Likely Outcome of Narendra Modi’s Unconstitutional Seizure of Kashmir
Eric Zuesse – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Aug 2019

17 Aug 2019 – There can be no honest legal question about the unConstitutionality of what Modi has been doing to J&K since 5 Aug—Modi’s traitorism to India’s Constitution. The question is whether India’s ‘news’-media will start to publicize this important fact. The Government hopes that enough J&K Muslims will evacuate so as to enable Hindus ‘democratically’ to impose an apartheid anti-Muslim regime. The whole of Kashmir is, at the moment, a prison, under military control.

Our Vanishing World (Part 1): Rainforests
Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

But the Amazon is huge, you might say: Does it matter if we destroy some of it for soy and cattle farming? Well, one recent study suggested that deforestation of 20–25% of the Amazon would be the tipping point beyond which it would cease to be a functioning rainforest ecosystem and this, as you might expect, would be catastrophic. Moreover, recent severe droughts appear to be ‘the first flickers of this ecological tipping point’ suggesting that it is already imminent.

Neoliberalism Has Met Its Match in China
Ellen Brown | Web of Debt – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

9 Aug 2019 – America’s chief competitor in the trade war is obviously China, which subsidizes not just worker costs but the costs of its businesses. The government owns 80% of the banks. Typically, if the businesses cannot repay the loans, neither the banks nor the businesses are put into bankruptcy. The non-performing loans are just carried on the books or written off. No private creditors are hurt, since the creditor is the government, and the loans were created on the banks’ books in the first place (following standard banking practice globally).

“That Was Then, This Is Now.” “Oh, yeah?” The Problem of Anti-Relativism in Political Morality
Richard E. Rubenstein – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

Anti-relativist thinking insists that certain values approved by the speaker are constant and unchangeable.  This means that behaviors that we now believe are wrong were ‘always’ unacceptable, and should always have always been recognized as such.  Anti-relativism’s opposite, moral relativism, can be summed up in the phrase, “Other times, other customs.”  Historical eras, social conditions, and cultural environments change, altering commonly accepted definitions of right and wrong.

The Paradox of Mortality: Death and Perpetual Denial
Devaleena Kundu | Academia – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

Literary discourses often seek to explore the emotional motley experienced by individuals while encountering death and dying. Representations by literary artists offer a virtual space wherein readers partake of the conclusive episode in a character’s lived experience. However, does a reader in the process imagine and accept his/her own cessation? Or does it always have to be an “other” being at whose death we are present as voyeurs? Freud in his 1918 work “Reflections on War and Death” observed: “We cannot, indeed, imagine our own death; whenever we try to do so we find that we survive ourselves as spectators.”

(Italiano) Dissacrare i confini, costruire contatti
Enrico Peyretti – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

Lifeboat Earth: Is China or the Green New Deal the Answer to Climate Change?
John Feffer - TomDispatch, 5 Aug 2019

30 Jul 2019 – At its best, the earth was once likened to a spaceship that sails through the heavens with a crew working together for the common good.
