(Italiano) I «biscotti» avvelenati della rete
Matteo Bartocci – Il Manifesto, 26 Aug 2019

We Are in a War Situation with China!

Participatory Evolution
Robert C. Koehler | Common Wonders – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Aug 2019

The core paradox of nonviolent protest against such legally sanctioned immoralities is that, if you block a driveway with your body or simply cross a bridge, you’re depending on the humanity of those you confront, who are armed with the weapons they hold or the vehicles they are driving, to keep them from acting on their anger and harming or killing you. Is this not the essence of courage? You are bringing nothing but yourself, empowered solely by the force of moral compassion — the way the world should be — to a confrontational demand for change.

Jeffrey Epstein and the Spectacle of Secrecy
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Aug 2019

21 Aug 2019 – When phrases such as “the deep state” and “conspiracy theory” become staples of both the corporate mainstream media and the alternative press, we know the realities behind these phrases have outlasted their usefulness for the ruling elites and for their critics. These phrases are bandied about so often that they have become hackneyed and inane.

Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Aug 2019

23 Aug 2019 – Something is causing the world’s glaciers and mountain ice fields to melt. And, despite your first thought, it is not the ongoing climate catastrophe. It does not matter where on Earth the glaciers and mountain ice fields are located, they are all melting. Moreover, the projected timeframe for some of them to disappear altogether is ‘imminently’; that is, within years.

Our Vanishing World (Part 1): Rainforests
Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Aug 2019

But the Amazon is huge, you might say: Does it matter if we destroy some of it for soy and cattle farming? Well, one recent study suggested that deforestation of 20–25% of the Amazon would be the tipping point beyond which it would cease to be a functioning rainforest ecosystem and this, as you might expect, would be catastrophic. Moreover, recent severe droughts appear to be ‘the first flickers of this ecological tipping point’ suggesting that it is already imminent.

Robert Fisk | The Independent – Microsoft News, 12 Aug 2019

8 Aug 2019 – This week marks only the 74th anniversary of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Over the past few days, I’ve had to look hard to find a headline about the two Japanese cities. But, especially in the Middle East and what we like to call south-east Asia, we should be remembering these gruesome anniversaries every month. Hiroshima was atomic-bombed 74 years ago on Tuesday; Nagasaki 74 years ago on Friday. Given the extent of the casualty figures, you’d think they’d be unforgettable.

Redrawing the Galtung Triangle – Finding Place for Healing Trauma in Peace Work
Kirthi Jayakumar – TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Jun 2019

Abstract – The Galtung Triangle describes direct violence as emanating from underlying cultural and structural violence. This focal point enables a cogent understanding of how every instance of direct violence depicts something underlying that needs to be addressed. This paper digs deeper and makes the case for expanding the framework presented by Galtung, by advancing an argument that underlying structural and cultural violence, is unhealed and unresolved trauma. In doing so, this paper argues in favor of addressing the unhealed trauma in order to address both structural and systemic factors keeping violence alive, as well as the direct manifestations of violence.

Angkor Wat Archaeological Digs Yield New Clues to Its Civilization’s Decline
Alison Kyra Carter – The Conversation, 10 Jun 2019

3 Jun 2019 – Many tourists hold an outdated romanticized image of an abandoned temple emerging from the jungle. But research around Angkor Wat suggests its collapse might be better described as a transformation. Angkor Wat was never abandoned. What can be abandoned is the tired cliché of foreign explorers “discovering” lost cities in the jungle.

Speeding into the Void of Cyberspace as Designed
Edward Curtin – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Jun 2019

While Internet billionaires like Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and Mark Zuckerberg slam government surveillance, talk up freedom, and embrace Snowden and crypto privacy culture, their companies still cut deals with the Pentagon, work with the NSA and CIA, and continue to track and profile people for profit. It is the same old split-screen marketing trick: the public branding and the behind-the-scenes reality.

Which Lessons Did Germany Adopt?
Amos Gvirtz – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Jun 2019

28 May 2019 – The German Bundestag’s decision to brand the activities of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) as anti-Semitic is in my opinion misguided, for two main reasons: the lessons of World War II and the question of nonviolent versus violent struggle. Israel has officially drawn two particular lessons from the Holocaust: “Never again”, and “We are allowed to do anything and no one is permitted to criticize our actions.”

Washington’s Huawei Hypocrisy… US Government Is Instrument of American Corporations
Finian Cunningham – RT, 3 Jun 2019

31 May 2019 – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Chinese Huawei as an agent for Beijing. The US government, conversely, is the consummate instrument of American corporations. Its congenital service to corporate profit-making is the real national security risk to American citizens and a global security threat for all people of the world due to the wars that Washington unswervingly pursues on behalf of US corporate interests.

Understanding NATO, Ending War
Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 27 May 2019

On 4 April 2019 NATO marked its 70th anniversary. Coinciding with it, peace activists and concerned scholars in several countries conducted a variety of events to draw attention to, and further document, the many war crimes and other atrocities committed by NATO (sometimes by deploying its associate and crony terrorist armies – ISIS, Al Qaeda, Al Nusra – recruited and trained by the CIA and funded by Saudi Arabia, other Gulf countries and the US directly.

Slavoj Žižek – RT, 27 May 2019

26 May 2019 – Israeli criticism of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign is somewhat justified, but those who won’t equally blast the apartheid politics of the state of Israel have no moral high ground from which to preach.

There’s Far More Diversity in Venezuela’s ‘Muzzled’ Media than in US Corporate Press
Lucas Koerner and Ricardo Vaz – FAIR|Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting – TRANSCEND Media Service, 27 May 2019

20 May 2019 – The international corporate media have long displayed a peculiar creativity with the facts in their Venezuela reporting, to the point that coverage of the nation’s crisis has become perhaps the world’s most lucrative fictional genre. Fairy tales about totalitarian state censorship in Venezuela reflect US corporate media regime’s own self-censorship, which is far more efficacious than any so-called “authoritarian” leader could imagine.

What’s Next: War with Venezuela?
Robert C. Koehler | Common Wonders – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 May 2019

8 May 2019 – Mix a little socialism in with the oil and war may be unavoidable. With our trillion dollar military budget, threatening (and waging) war is pretty much the only thing we know how to do as a nation, and by “we” I mean the ones in control, publicly and/or secretly — the ones whose egos have expanded to the size of the nation, who mean themselves when they say “that’s what the United States will do.”

Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 May 2019

Given that the expression ‘mental disintegration’ describes a shocking psychological state but also one that is so widespread it afflicts virtually everyone, it can be described as posing the greatest threat to human survival on Earth because it caused – and now prevents virtually everyone from thinking, feeling, planning and behaving functionally in response to – the multifaceted threats to humanity and the biosphere.

No Direction Home: The Journey of Frantz Fanon
Adam Shatz | Raritan Quarterly, Rutgers University – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 May 2019

Winter 2019 – Reading Fanon, one sometimes has the impression that mere expository prose cannot do justice to the impulsive movement of his thought. I use the word “movement” advisedly: Fanon did not write his texts; he dictated them while pacing back and forth, either to his wife, Josie, or to his secretary, Marie-Jeanne Manuellan (who has just published a memoir about the experience). This method of composition lends his writings an electrifying musicality: restless, searching, and, as he fell prey to the leukemia that would kill him, otherworldly in its call for a new planetary order, cleansed of racism and oppression.

Robert Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 May 2019

Pero hay un gran número de personas en todo el mundo que no aceptan esto y que están luchando, sin descanso, para poner fin a la violencia antes de que nos acabe a nosotros. ¿Qué hay de usted?

That is where we are today.”That’s where we are today . . . half a century later!

Tackling the ‘Impossible’: Ending Violence
Robert J. Burrowes, Ph.D. – TRANSCEND Media Service, 29 Apr 2019

24 Apr 2019 – Anyone who pays attention to the subject of violence in any detail soon discovers that plenty of people are interested in tackling this problem, even if it is ‘impossible’. Moreover, of course, at least some people recognize that while we must tackle each manifestation of violence, understanding the cause of violence is imperative if we are to successfully tackle its many manifestations at their source. To do all of this effectively, however, is a team effort. And hopefully, one day, this team will include all of us.

In 2010, the Guardian, like the New York Times and a few other corporate newspapers, briefly partnered with WikiLeaks to publish the contents of thousands of confidential US diplomatic cables, known as Cablegate. The material exposed atrocities perpetrated by the US military, as well as other disgraceful acts—like US diplomats strategizing on how to undermine elected governments out of favor with Washington, spying on official US allies and bullying poor countries into paying wildly exorbitant prices for life-saving drugs.
