There Is a Deeper, Darker Agenda Afoot as the US Cuts UNRWA Funding
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Sep 2018

The US State Department said on Friday [31 Aug] it would no longer continue its $360 million annual contributions to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, depriving it of a third of its budget. The move follows an announcement last week that Washington had slashed $200 million from other aid programmes for the Palestinians. Refugees are the final loose end in forcing Palestinians to accept Trump’s ‘deal of the century’ peace plan.

Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 9 Jul 2018

8 Jul 2018 – Israel finally built an access road to the West Bank village of Khan Al Ahmar last week, after half a century of delays. But the only vehicles allowed along it are the bulldozers scheduled to sweep away its 200 inhabitants’ homes. If one community has come to symbolise the demise of the two-state solution, it is Khan Al Ahmar.

Robert Fisk Puts to Test the Free-Press Myth in Douma
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 30 Apr 2018

18 Apr 2018 – The content of what he reported was incendiary. Just a few days after France, UK and US had bombed Syria, in violation of all principles of international law, on the grounds that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons in Douma, Fisk interviewed a doctor at the clinic where the victims were treated. The doctor said no chemical attack occurred. The video footage from last week was genuine, the doctor added, but it showed civilians who had inhaled dust after a Syrian bombing attack, not gas.

As Israel Marks 70 Years, What Have Been the True Costs?
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Apr 2018

18 Apr 2018 – Independence Day celebrations tomorrow should be a moment for Israelis – and the many Jews who identify with Israel – to reflect on what kind of state it has become after seven decades. Israel is an ugly ethnic supremacist state that closes its doors to Jews who decry the oppression of the native Palestinian population.

Israel Has Accelerated Its Annexation of the West Bank from a Slow Creep to a Run
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Mar 2018

18 Mar 2018 – Last week, during an address to students in New York, Israel’s education minister Naftali Bennett publicly disavowed even the notion of a Palestinian state. What is needed now is someone to arm-twist the Palestinians. Mike Pompeo’s move from the CIA to State Department, Mr Trump may hope, will produce the strongman needed to bulldoze the Palestinians into submission.

Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 27 Nov 2017

Saffuriya was one of more than 500 Palestinian villages ethnically cleansed by Israel in 1948, during the Nakba. Journalist Jonathan Cook explains how Israel quickly acted to raze the villages so the 750,000 refugees could not return and then covered up these war crimes by planting forests over the ruins.

Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 30 Oct 2017

Balfour Declaration: How Britain Broke Its Feeble Promise to the Palestinians
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 30 Oct 2017

30 Oct 2017 – Palestinian objections to the 2 Nov 1917 document are well-known. Britain’s Lord Balfour had no right to promise a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine, on the land of another people. But Israelis have been taught a different history in which they, not the Palestinians, were betrayed.

The US and Israel Kick Up a Fake Storm Over UNESCO
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 16 Oct 2017

15 Oct 2017 – At first glance, the decision last week by the Trump administration, followed immediately by Israel, to quit the United Nation’s cultural agency seems strange. Why penalise a body that promotes clean water, literacy, heritage preservation and women’s rights? Washington’s claim that UNESCO is biased against Israel obscures the real crimes the agency has committed in US eyes.

Jodi Rudoren Admits Palestinians Experience ‘Apartheid’ – But Not in NYT
Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 7 Aug 2017

An obvious question arises: why have we not heard about Jodi Rudoren’s incendiary view that Israel is practising apartheid in the pages of the New York Times? In her four years as Jerusalem bureau chief, she never wrote an op-ed or analysis expressing that view, or gave a voice to experts in Israel and abroad who have reached a similar conclusion.

Often described as the Palestinians’ Nelson Mandela, Barghouti led the recent prisoners’ hunger strike. Hersh’s New Syria Revelations Buried from View
Jonathan Cook - CounterPunch, 3 Jul 2017

27 Jun 2017 – Veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, the man who exposed the Mai Lai massacre during the Vietnam War and the US military’s abuses of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib in 2004, is probably the most influential journalist of the modern era. Hersh’s investigations have not only undermined evidence-free claims being promoted in the west to destabilise Assad’s goverment but threatened a wider US policy seeking to “remake the Middle East”. Hersh’s new investigation was paid for by the London Review of Books, which declined to publish it. This is almost disturbing as the events in question.

Jonathan Cook – TRANSCEND Media Service, 13 Feb 2017

“The train departing from here has only one stop – at The Hague,” opposition leader Isaac Herzog said in reference to the home of the International Criminal Court. If ICC prosecutors take their duties seriously, the legalisation law significantly raises the pressure on them to put Israeli officials – even Mr Netanyahu – on trial for complicity in the war crime of establishing and nurturing the settlements.

How Israel Aims to Redefine ‘Ethnic Cleansing’
Jonathan Cook | The View from Nazareth – TRANSCEND Media Service, 19 Sep 2016

Netanyahu argues that a Palestinian demand to dismantle Jewish settlements amounts to the “ethnic cleansing” of some 650,000 Jews living in the occupied territories in violation of international law. His aim is not hard to decipher. Netanyahu can argue that when Palestinian leaders call for a state free of armed, Jewish-only colonies breaking up any hope of Palestinian territorial contiguity they should be labelled as ethnic cleansers.

The inciting cause of the latest confrontation between Israel and Hamas has little to do with the firing of rockets, whether by Hamas or the other Palestinian factions. The conflict predates the rockets – and even the creation of Hamas – by decades. It is the legacy of Israel’s dispossession of Palestinians in 1948, forcing many of them from their homes in what is now Israel into the tiny Gaza Strip.

The map fails to delineate any territory identifiable as the West Bank, referring to it instead as the Biblical kingdoms of Judea and Samaria. That is also the way Israeli textbooks have presented the West Bank to generations of Israeli schoolchildren: as a single territorial unit of Greater Israel, ruled over by Israel.
