David Adams | Transition to a Culture of Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 5 Jul 2021

A Human Approach to World Peace
His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso The 14th Dalai Lama, Nobel Peace Laureate - TRANSCEND Media Service, 1 Mar 2021

There is unprecedented literacy, yet this universal education does not foster goodness, but only mental restlessness and discontent. The increase in material progress and technology did not succeeded in bringing about peace, happiness or in overcoming suffering… For renewal of human values and a lasting happiness, we need to look to the common humanitarian heritage of all nations. May this essay serve as an urgent reminder lest we forget the human values that unite us all as a single family on this planet.

Winds of Change–The Challenge of Modernity in the Middle East and North Africa
Abbas Aroua, et al. | Cordoba Peace Institute Geneva – TRANSCEND Media Service, 6 Jul 2020

One theme is the opposition between traditionalists and modernists, “the conflict between fundamentalists and those who want to bring Islam into the modern age”. A possible approach: social change. The Middle East must be able to temper a spiritual vision in a modern and pragmatic world and rediscover traditional values without “a perpetual and obsessive return to the past”. This book is a worthwhile and welcome contribution to current debates over the future of the MENA region.

Has the Crash Arrived?
David Adams | Transition to a Culture of Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 23 Mar 2020

19 Mar 2020 – The headlines provide abundant details about economic shutdowns in order to slow the spread of the COV-19 virus. But behind the headlines, there is another story more important in the long run: the global economy is a house of cards based on speculation and military spending. It seems likely that the house of cards will come crashing down as a result of the global economic shutdown.

A Word to TMS Readers and Supporters
Mairead Maguire, Nobel Peace Laureate - TRANSCEND Media Service, 16 Mar 2020

“It is with great pleasure that I write in praise and support of TMS. I look forward to it each week and enjoy reading the articles by Prof. Johan Galtung, peace educationalist, activists, and others from around the world. My thanks and admiration go to editor Antonio C. S. Rosa for the great efforts that he puts into the weekly production of Transcend Media Service. The publication keeps me in touch with the many people working in various fields and countries–both educating and inspiring me. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO KEEP THIS RELEVANT SERVICE ALIVE. It needs all the help we can give, i.e., writing, FINANCING, solidarity actions. I am also very grateful for the publications of my works on nonkilling, nonviolence, and a world without violence and war. I get encouragement knowing that so many people around the world are working for a world of peace and nonviolence.”

Towards a Mayors’ Security Council
David Adams | Transition to a Culture of Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 9 Mar 2020

1 Mar 2020 – Around the world we see the beginning of failed states, consumed by violence: Libya, Yemen, and a case can be made for Mexico. Johan Galtung has gone so far as to imagine that the United States will split into two countries as the American Empire crumbles. The situation is so serious that UN Secretary-General Guterres devoted his annual press conference on February 4 to the “wind of madness” sweeping the globe. ”

Making a Difference: 20 Years of Conflict-Resolving Media
Jake Lynch | The Peace Journalist – TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Feb 2020

“In my reportage, taking from the course, I always stay focused on stating facts, the truth and let the voice of the people dominate the narrative as opposed to political parties or ‘elite sources’ as you call them. These sources tend to have vested interests that I avoid. I focus on people’s stories, the human-interest ones. Solutions are not what I intentionally work towards, but they can be inevitable outcome of any such endeavour and I hope for that”.

(Français) Pourquoi le budget militaire gonflé menace de faire tomber l’empire américain
David Adams | Transition to a Culture of Peace – TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 Feb 2020
