If this virus has done anything, it has reminded us that we are only human and very vulnerable; we need each other to survive and thrive. If anything, this virus hopefully will cement the opinion that we are All One, brothers and sisters; what affects one affects all. Hopefully, it will create a greater sense of community and solidarity within the human race in addition to respect for each other, for nature and the universe. We will become more aware that we are interconnected, interdependent, cooperation and solidarity being key to human and environmental survival.

26 Mar 2020 – In the light of these latest developments, we have to ask ourselves how this country collapsed, how a seemingly strong state could fail and allow the dynamics of violence to set in, and finally what could be done to manage a peaceful way out of the crisis? To find some answers or at least some keys to interpreting the situation, it is important to have a multidisciplinary approach, using the tools of historical science, sociology and political science.

My thanks and admiration go to editor Antonio C. S. Rosa for the great efforts that he puts into the weekly production of Transcend Media Service. The publication keeps me in touch with the many people working in various fields and countries–both educating and inspiring me. IT IS IMPERATIVE TO KEEP THIS RELEVANT SERVICE ALIVE. It needs all the help we can give, i.e., writing, FINANCING, solidarity actions. I am also very grateful for the publications of my works on nonkilling, nonviolence, and a world without violence and war. I get encouragement knowing that so many people around the world are working for a world of peace and nonviolence.”

Hence, this essay is an effort to try to indicate, at a very simple, common sense level, that both views are fruitful in conceiving of new forms of peace action, and that they in a sense reinforce each other.

We are free to become free. This is the lesson taught by Socrates. It is also the essence of Buddhism. Nietzsche quotes Pindar: “Become who you are.” We are inextricable strands in the holistic web of being and becoming. Said the poet Byron: “Are not the mountains, waves, and skies, a part of me and of my soul, as I of them?” John Lennon said: “I am the walrus.”

[Note from TMS editor]: Peace does not mean the absence of war; that is called negative peace. Positive peace is based on equitable distribution of resources, restoration of relationships, the creation of social systems that serve the needs of the whole population and the constructive resolution of conflict. To work for a sustainable peace, people focus on factors to generate positive peace, rather than simply to avoid violence. [Galtung 1996].

1 Apr 2019 – It seems we are now starting to see student strikes to demand that their governments address the problem of climate change. Can this movement become revolutionary? Students are beginning to see that their world is being exploited by their governments and that their schools seem to be in complicity with the governments. 17 Mar 2019 – The super-elites, the 2,208 billionaires — those who attend Global Economic Summits, own banks, buy off governments, pollute with impunity, and hold political influence in virtually every nation in the world — comprise not the “1%” but only 28-millionths of a percent of the human population. According to Forbes magazine, the average billionaire makes about $635 million dollars every year, $12 million per week, even when they’re on holiday.

1 Mar 2019 In this blog we have often proposed that the culture of war is not sustainable and that the American empire is destined to crash for the same reasons that the Soviet empire crashed. It can be an opportunity for a transition from the culture of war to a culture of peace. However, the crash of the American empire may well be accompanied (caused) by a global financial crash with suffering for ordinary people, as it did for the Soviet people 30 years ago.

There are many ways a nuclear attack could be initiated. These include the four “Ms” of Malice, Madness, Mistake and Miscalculation. Of these ways of initiating a nuclear attack, only malice could possibly be inhibited by nuclear deterrence (fear of nuclear retaliation), and such an inhibition from attack would not be reliable due to psychological and communication issues that are required for nuclear deterrence to be effective.
