(Italiano) Teoria critica della razza: osservazioni e lezioni apprese
Richard E. Rubenstein | Centro Studi Sereno Regis - TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Jul 2021

Approaching Iran: The Flaws of Imperial Diplomacy in the Middle East
Richard Falk | Global Justice in the 21st Century – TRANSCEND Media Service, 5 Jul 2021

28 Jun 2021 – Biden pledged as a candidate to restore JCPOA, but has so far shown only a limited commitment to rejoin the earlier agreement, and seems to be insisting on a new agreement that is more restrictive of Iran’s nuclear program and its regional political activity. The U.S. Government seems to forget that it was its actions that led to the breakdown of the agreement.

The Battle over Critical Race Theory Heats Up: Observations and Lessons Learned
Richard E. Rubenstein – TRANSCEND Media Service, 5 Jul 2021

To resolve the conflict between the advocates and opponents of Critical Race Theory, it seems that two steps need to be taken, one immediate and the second more long term.  Immediately, the theory needs to be restated in terms understandable to non-academics that make it clear that the point of the theory is not to condemn white people because of their race or cultural heritage or to sit in final judgment on America.  It is to demonstrate the structural sources of America’s most beneficial and most destructive ideas and practices, and the need for thoroughgoing changes in a system that generates such deep contradictions.

Nikola Tesla (10 Jul 1856 – 7 Jan 1943)
Biography and Michel Chossudovsky – TRANSCEND Media Service, 5 Jul 2021

Very few people know who Nikola Tesla is. They have heard of the Tesla electric car, but generally the broader public is unfamiliar with the Serbian scientist and his path-breaking inventions in electricity and wireless technology. Many of his inventions were stolen by US corporations. Wireless technology was in large part based on Tesla inventions. He contributed to the development of the alternating-current electrical system that’s widely used today and discovered the rotating magnetic field (the basis of most AC machinery).

The USA Has Very Little to Gain by Overdemonizing China
Michael E. O’Hanlon | The Brookings Institute - TRANSCEND Media Service, 28 Jun 2021

The recent bipartisan push in the United States to be tough on China seems to be confirming the adage: If it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing. While the Biden administration suggests that we compete against Beijing in some realms, cooperate with it in others and confront the Chinese where we must, Washington seems all too willing to overemphasize this last leg of the policy triad.

Alfred de Zayas et Richard Falk | Investig'Action - TRANSCEND Media Service, 14 Jun 2021

‘Rule-Based-International-Order’: A New Metaphor for U.S. Geopolitical Primacy
Richard Falk – TRANSCEND Media Service, 31 May 2021

The implication of this ‘rules-governed’ world is that the USA plays by the rules whereas our adversaries do not. But Snowden revealed that the US has invested more than any other government in intrusive surveillance. Its record of manipulating foreign elections is notorious being a well-known part of the CIA’s portfolio. It has projected more deadly force outside its borders than any other state in last 75 years and has intervened repeatedly in disrupting democracies, blocking and sanctioning their governments if they refuse U.S. tutelage.

19 May 2021 – This piece attempts to contextualize the current violence directed against Gaza in earlier Israeli provocations and takes note of Israel’s reliance on excessive force upon a helpless Gazan civilian population of over two million people trapped inside a crowded and unlawfully blockaded enclave. (Italiano) Riflessioni sul genocidio come crimine estremo
Richard Falk | Centro Studi Sereno Regis - TRANSCEND Media Service, 3 May 2021

The Rentier Resurgence and Takeover: Finance Capitalism vs. Industrial Capitalism
Michael Hudson - TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Apr 2021

Marx and many of his less radical contemporary reformers saw the historical role of industrial capitalism as being to clear away the legacy of feudalism – the landlords, bankers and monopolists extracting economic rent without producing real value. Reflections on Genocide as the Ultimate Crime
Richard Falk | Global Justice in the 21st Century – TRANSCEND Media Service, 26 Apr 2021

26 Apr 2021 – The misuse of the word genocide is disdainful toward relatives of the victims of the Armenian massacres, the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide – and as well a disservice to both history, law, and the prudent conduct of international relations. We already knew that we were adrift in an ocean of fake news. It is far more dangerous to discover that we are also at risk of being immersed in the turbulent waters of “fake law”. We must push back with a sense of urgency. Such a development is not tolerable.

COVID-19: Pandemic? Or Cult?
Michael J. Talmo | Global Research - TRANSCEND Media Service, 12 Apr 2021

6 Apr 2021 – For the overwhelming majority of people, COVID-19 is a religion. On faith they believe that vaccines using an experimental mRNA technology never before used on humans, developed in less than a year instead of the normal 5-10 years to evaluate the long-term effects on people’s health, are safe and effective. It’s important to understand that there is a difference between knowing something and believing that you know something. Your brain makes decisions for emotional reasons first, such as being afraid, and then comes up with intellectual reasons to justify that belief.

Elections as Religious Rituals: When Political Conflicts Are Also Conflicts of Faith
Richard E. Rubenstein – TRANSCEND Media Service, 29 Mar 2021

I am certainly not the first commentator to notice that elections in democratic states (and often in non-democracies) bear a strong resemblance to religious rituals. Howard Richards | Centro Studi Sereno Regis - TRANSCEND Media Service, 15 Feb 2021

“Arcobalenismo” è da non confondere con “Non-razzialismo” o “Una società non razziale.” La differenza è che in “una Società Arcobaleno” vivono insieme in pace e armonia persone di diverse razze, mentre in una “Società non-razziale” non esiste razza, si riconosce la verità. Che è che non esiste una tal cosa come la razza. L’umanità è una.

Remembering George Shultz after 53 Years
Richard Falk | Global Justice in the 21st Century – TRANSCEND Media Service, 15 Feb 2021

I recall nostalgically, George’s civility, which according to reports, nevertheless required backbone, resisting the Nixon’s tactics that prefigured Trump’s antic presidency. George impressively stood his ground firmly whenever political leaders asked him to cross his red lines, so unlike the Republicans who inhabit Congress, and toe the Trump line no matter what. [He died on 6 Feb 2021 at the age of 100.]

I’m A Prisoner at Guantanamo Bay and I Have a Message for President Biden
Ahmed Rabbani | Reprieve/ICH - TRANSCEND Media Service, 8 Feb 2021

4 Feb 2021 – I am in year seven of a hunger strike, protesting the fact that I am held without trial. I am under half of the weight I was when I was first seized in Karachi, and the way it has been going, even while they force-feed me, I will die here in my cell. I have no interest in revenge, but I would like people to know what happened to me and how it has been swept under the carpet.

Message to Joe Biden and His Foreign Policy Team: Beware the King Cyrus Fallacy!
Richard Rubenstein – TRANSCEND Media Service, 8 Feb 2021

Will the Biden appointees listen to anti-imperialist voices in both the Democratic and Republican parties, as well as among activists outside the two-party system?  Will they recognize and avoid the King Cyrus fallacy?  I have little confidence that hardened “national security” officials will do the right thing, but with Mr. Trump gone, hope still flowers.  One therefore offers a prayer of sorts: ut imperii cadunt.  May the U.S. Empire be dismantled as speedily and peacefully as possible!

A Non-racial Society (a Society without Racism) Must Necessarily Be an Unbounded Society
Howard Richards – TRANSCEND Media Service, 8 Feb 2021

“Rainbowism” is contrasted with “Non-racialism” or “A Non-racial Society.” The difference is that in “a Rainbow Society” people of different races live together in peace and harmony, while in a “Non-racial Society” race does not exist; the truth is acknowledged. The truth is that there is no such thing as race. Humanity is one.

Richard Falk | Global Justice in the 21st Century – TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 Jan 2021

23 Jan 2021 – Trump’s foreign policy was indeed disastrous, but it did somewhat illuminate the anachronistic character of the zombie like ‘bipartisan consensus’ that yet be revived in the course of reaffirming the old Cold War/neoliberal globalization orthodoxy of pre-Trump America.

Are We as Area Studies Scholars Guilty of Negligence in Allowing Genocides to Happen in the Regions We Study?
Michael Charney | FORSEA Forces of Renewal for Southeast Asia - TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 Jan 2021

21 Jan 2021 – Foreign scholars CAN help to prevent genocide again. If we’re waiting for policymakers to prevent things on their own and save ourselves the trouble so that we can take a well-funded research trip and sit outside a coffee shop in Naypyitaw or Yangon, why should the rest of the world have any interest in reading anything we have to write? Scholarship and research should mean something.

Corona Mask Mandates: Science or Political Dogma?
Michael J. Talmo | Global Research - TRANSCEND Media Service, 25 Jan 2021

When it comes to masks, U.S. government officials have more waffles than a pancake house. Back in March 2020 we were told not to wear masks. Then, starting in April, they do an about-face and for the past several months have been telling us to wear surgical and even cloth masks. But they insisted that the masks won’t protect the people wearing them from COVID-19—only the people they come in contact with. “My mask protects you, your mask protects me” was the mantra.

A Simple Way to Understand What’s Happening … and What to Do
Richard Heinberg | Post Carbon Institute - TRANSCEND Media Service, 11 Jan 2021

Energy is necessary in order for any organism to do anything whatsoever. For humans, food is energy that powers labor. But, in addition, people long ago learned how to harness energy from fire, water, and wind. Using firewood, paddle wheels, and sails, we built agrarian societies with irrigation systems, cities, cathedrals, mills, and seagoing ships, and created some pretty great art, music, and literature along the way.

The Assault on the U.S. Capitol and the Problem of Right-Wing Radicalization
Richard Rubenstein – TRANSCEND Media Service, 11 Jan 2021

The U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. was invaded on January 6th by right-wing protestors bent on disrupting the joint session of Congress to certify Joe Biden’s and Kamala Harris’s election as U.S. president and vice-president. The house in which I am writing this editorial is two blocks from the Capitol, and from my study I could hear the crowd, sirens, helicopter noises, and explosive “bangs” of flash grenades detonating.

I know that spiritual attentiveness has wider implications but I find no evidence that links connect my meditation with the policies and actions of performers in ongoing world dramas.

Embrace Communities to Save Humanity and the Planet
Howard Richards – TRANSCEND Media Service, 28 Dec 2020

The unbounded idea includes sharing surplus, moving resources from where they are not needed to where they are needed, following the ancient principle Pope Francis is repeating every day: our property belongs not only to us but also to those we can help with our surplus. It is about peace by peaceful means; education, ethics, and practical applications; more than about playing hardball with people who choose to live by a different philosophy.
