Media Show Little Interest in Israeli Bombing of Gaza
Alan MacLeod | FAIR Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting – TRANSCEND Media Service, 24 Aug 2020

21 Aug 2020 – Israel is bombing Palestine again, although you wouldn’t guess that from watching TV news. For the eleventh straight night, Israeli Defense Force warplanes have been bombing the densely populated Gaza Strip causing considerable damage and forcing the shutdown of the area’s only power plant. But the corporate media, focused on the coronavirus and US elections, have shown little interest in the renewed violence in the Middle East.

Modi’s Brutal Treatment of Kashmir Exposes His Tactics – And Their Flaws
Arundhati Roy | The Guardian - TRANSCEND Media Service, 24 Aug 2020

At midnight on 4 August 2019, phones in Kashmir went dead and internet connections were cut. On 5 August 2019, a year ago today, 7 million people were locked into their homes under a strict military curfew. Up to 10,000 people, from young children and teenage stone pelters to former chief ministers and major pro-India politicians, were arrested and put into preventive detention, where many of them still remain. On 6 August, a bill was passed in parliament stripping the state of Jammu and Kashmir of its autonomy and special status enshrined in the Indian constitution. It was stripped of statehood, downgraded into two union territories, Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir. Ladakh would have no legislature and would be governed directly by New Delhi.

Nonviolence versus Capitalism
Brian Martin | War Resisters’ International – TRANSCEND Media Service, 24 Aug 2020

Nonviolent action is the most promising method for moving beyond capitalism to a more humane social and economic system. Approaches based on using state power—including state socialism and socialist electoralism—have been tried and failed. Dramatic changes are definitely needed because capitalism, despite its undoubted strengths, continues to cause enormous suffering. Nonviolent action as an approach has the capacity to transform capitalism, though there are many obstacles involved.

Advertisements — Their Impact on Businesses
Dr. Ravi P. Bhatia – TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Aug 2020

Modern business works on the principle of advertisements— conveniently called ads. The more ads you post in newspapers or on TV, social media or even on roadside hoardings, the better chances you have with your products. Even if a person does not need the product, the advertising is so enticing, that a person thinks let us give it a chance.

Amanda Haydar – TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Aug 2020

17 Aug 2020 – Embedded in Lebanon’s system is what Galtung calls structural violence. The current arrangement has failed to ensure the best interests of the Lebanese people and it is neither conducive to peace nor development. Conflict in Lebanon embodies Cultural Violence–the tendency to utilize aspects of culture to legitimize and justify direct and structural violence. Ask yourself this: “What does the Lebanon I want to live in look like?”

Israel Is in Shock, in a Sickening Show of Hypocrisy
Gideon Levy | Haaretz - TRANSCEND Media Service, 17 Aug 2020

7 Aug 2020 – When Israel demolished Dahiya and other neighborhoods in Beirut, the Tel Aviv Municipality building was not illuminated with the colors of the Lebanese flag. When Israel killed thousands of innocent women and children, old and young, in Gaza during the criminal Operation Cast Lead and Operation Protective Edge, the municipality was not lit up in the colors of the Palestinian flag. But on Wednesday [5 Aug] we were all so humane, so Lebanese for a moment. Until the next Dahiya.

Re-membering the Globe from a Flatland Perspective
Anthony Judge | Laetus in Praesens - TRANSCEND Media Service, 10 Aug 2020

Reconciling in 3D the Vitruvian Archetype with Sports Ball Curves – The speculation here is that the long-admired (and much-reproduced) Vitruvian Man, as famously depicted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1490, could be seen as apparently reinforcing a two-dimensional worldview — even though it is interpreted as implying and exemplifying what could be considered as a vital perspective on proportions in their more integrative global sense.

Roy Eidelson - TRANSCEND Media Service, 10 Aug 2020

Then came the batons, the pepper spray, the tear gas, the flash-grenades, the helicopters, the armored vehicles, and the rubber bullets. And then came the chorus of privileged beneficiaries of our country’s discriminatory status quo, denying and defending the reality of brutal, racist, militarized, and unaccountable over-policing.

the snake in the garden of Love;
saying: “Go and be killed if you can!”
